Mine are very dry and raw around the creasing area on the vamp (not like the picture above), and it's supposed to be a common thing. So be it.
But those in the pic about are really bad, corroded and split leather.

^^ I'm sure Allen Edmond's (or any quality shoemaker brand) could make shoos just as good as those. . . but they would never be able to find leather like that at a feasible price today.
