For me it's all about the suit.  Living where I do, you see alot of "incidental ivy"--guys wearing sack blazers with ugly wide ties and pleated baggy trousers, so the true Ivy suit is about doing it right:  Gray, Blue, Brown or Dark Olive; narrow fitting but with straighter lines, soft shoulders.  The lapped seam, to me, designates a true Ivy sack over any other kind of sack suit(all Ivy suits are sacks, but are all sacks Ivy suits?), that hint of casualness, of a durable, workwear aesthetic.  Suits built to last.  Suits you can sleep in, wake up in and keep going.  Suits made back when suits were supposed to be treated like daywear, not an evening gown in super 250s.
