I'm interested in opinions on woven neckties with country iconography such as fishing flies, ducks and cocker spaniels for wear with tweed in season.
Hackneyed or not? Limited to those objects with which one has a personal acquaintance?
Discuss please.

Whatever associations one might have thought they needed at one time, considering in the USA the real need for tweeds and the country gent look is unecessary, I think they work very well to reinforce the whole look of the outfit. It is one of the few times a non stylized symbol works well. This is from a being well dressed standpoint of course.
I like a few of the more "discreet" designs offered by Press in burgundy or blue or green background. I don't think you have to shoot or fish to wear them.
'John Comfort' was the name in Fogey & Anglo-Ivy circles. Fortnums carried them.
Smooth wool & crisp, clear prints... I like a wool tie for a change from silk sometimes...
Silk can often 'sing out' a little too much with flannel & tweed. IMVHO. Wool has a nice dull, soft finish... Irish poplin is often good for the same reason although not as soft...
Yesterday I found a nice Wool & Alpaca striped knit tie from Burberrys up with some old jumpers in the attic. '86 it must be. Nice.
I'm going to stop shopping & just go up into my attic from now on... Cobwebs may be in next year...
(Actually I can see Mrs Peters from up there... I sometimes admire her free spirit... She bicycles everwhere...)
Nothing wrong with that.

Ode to a Neighbour...
Oh lucky, lucky bicycle that thou doth bestride,
Dear, dear Mrs Peters as you take it for a ride.
Oh often have I seen you there, mounting yonder hill -
Then waited for your rushed descent, feeling rather ill.
Would Mr. Peters hit me if he saw me smile at you?
And would he pulp me to the ground into a pool of goo?
Would all my protests count for nought If I said I liked you?
Well, fair enough... I see his point,
And quite right too.

I don't like animal figures on Hermes ties and have always avoided them. I'd think that these would be the country equivalent. You would be advertising your hobbies (fly-fishing or shooting), like wearing a t-shirt that says "Vegas" or "NASCAR". Another example of the old rule that "if you have to ask, it's not right" (even for Will).
