A Bit of Frumpy Winter Ivy

The cord suit topic has made me think of this.  I enjoy a little bit of frumpy from time to time.  Call it "The geography teacher look" if you want, but I prefer to think of it as the "English Professor" or the "Impoverished Writer."  Bill Evans had a bit of mad genius frump to him, after all.  I've got a vintage olive/brown herringbone tweed sack suit that I salvaged over the summer and cannot wait until it is cold enough to wear it.  Tweed is a frumpy fabric.  A worn oxford is frumpy.  I am all about the slim look, but some times it is nice to take a frumpy vacation, especially in Autumn/Winter.  I found a vintage maroon hopsack blazer with white buttons.  Pure frump.  Who else digs a bit of frumpy?

I do wear my sagging ancient grey merino cardie (two leather football buttons missing) quite a lot. And shit-brown cords, a size too large.

I win as I suspect that I actually smell this afternoon (an anchovy salad eaten in haste).

I picked up a nice old J. Press tweed with a nice blue plaid.  Unfortunately I still need to wait about 2 more months before it is cool enough to wear.  I much prefer colder weather clothes to spring and summer wear.

Join me here,
And wear some Tweed.
You'll like it,
If you've learned to read...

Come in,
Sit down.
Why should you care?

Re: A Bit of Frumpy Winter Ivy

As my sixty second birthday looms, I think about this subject on an almost daily basis.  I did the old 'geography teacher' bit while I was teaching history: tweed, cord.  Now I think I want to look like a rather vulnerable old gentleman, possibly Italian, shuffling around, frumpishly, in his shabby Burberrys' fly-fronted and Astorflex.  But - the cords I am currently cursed with are driving me insane.  Slip, slip, slip.  Tightening of the belt.  Discomfort ensues.  I would willingly pay a bounty to anyone looking in who could recommend 'elderly fat bastard' cords.  Even Bill's might do it.  Anything but these.
