J. Press Shetland Sweaters...
What kind of dog is the 'Shaggy Dog'?
If I take my glasses off and look at the label I can very clearly see the face of Burt Lahr.
Why has nobody ever posted on this subject before?

Now I've had fun - Down to work...
Certain of both my Andover & J. Press Shetlands contain the side lable (Left hand side if you have your Shetland on) with care instructions and the name 'LOKL' - Who knows what about 'LOKL'? Any Trad out there? Any Ivy style dresser?
The new Press Shetlands have a slightly different (better) collar as advertised in the catalogue than previously. Who knows what about that? New maker? Non-LOKL this year? What's the deal.
My Andover & Press Shetlands which are both LOKL are diffrent animals in their shape, collar, cut, surface texture etc. Same wool tho'. Is LOKL a distributor? Is it a maker? What does L.O.K.L. mean? Must be gaelic or an abreviation.
All input welcome. Steedappeal & misterman, if they feel like it, also. Anybody else's best guess is also welcome.
(...and you thought this thread was just me fooling around again... !)

I'm wearing a Shaggy Dog from '03 today & notice that the label isn't 'LOKL' but just a very ordinary '100% Wool' one.
To some people this information may not be interesting...
The jumper looks just the same as later 'LOKL' label ones though...

Quick update:
Just got my first of this season's Press Shetlands...
1) No LOKL label, just 'All Pure New Wool' instead (As if that mattered much!).
2) Press Shetlands have always been good but these seem better than ever -
A thicker, softer, denser, more 'felty' knit. Wonderfully soft.
A better shaped neck to frame an OCBD.
A trimmer cut. Well built Americans may need to go a size up. I'm finding the leaner look better for layering with my build - I can get these new Shetlands under more of my Tweeds & Herringbones.
So I'm a happy boy today.
Also worthy of praise is the speed of Press's dispatch. My Shetland was in London within a week (-ish) of placing the internet order. The fact that it then took another 3 weeks to get from London to Gloucestershire is another story!
(Actually I can't complain, usually my post never arrives at all...)
The happy thought is that I've got another arriving next week DV.

I've been looking through my Shetlands & the current Press offering is the 'Westerway & Westerway' cut of yore. Same collar too.
THE BEST SHETLAND.
W&W offer a handful of them still via Madrid but they're not what they were back in the days when they had two shops around the British Museum in Bloomsbury, London, England.
When I say the best I mean the best 'cut & sewn' non-saddle shoulder offering that I've come across in my life. (Best Saddle shoulders were Sam Fisher's)
Once upon a time they were knitted on odd circular knitting 'machines' that eliminated the side seams. Long gone from the Shetlands now.
I think the current Press wool may be even better than the old W&W stuff too but with wear & tear it's hard to say now... some of the sweaters I'm looking at are circa 1982!
