HELP = ties were in a box for 4 months and have folds

My ties stayed in a box, lying flat, one on the others.

I have found the energy to put them out of the box.

They are not wrinkled so much but most of them have slight folds in the middle of the body, some sort of print let by the folded edges of the ties itself or by the tie which was below in the pile.

You see that fold sometimes on new ties in shops, probably because they were stored the same way as my ties.

Can I remove these folds/prints with a steamer easily or do I need to commit a clothes suicide by wearing seedy looking ties ?

They should steam out.

Ernest,

If the ties have a pure wool interlining you will not need to steam them. Just hang them up for a week or two.

If that does not work try simply hanging them near your shower and take a long hot shower.

Only as a very last resort should a nice tie be steamed. The reason is that while often steaming a tie works ok, but from time to time you will end up with a water spot.

Steaming is extra dangerous for beautiful printed silks, and less of a problem for heavy woven silks.

Bon chance!

For perhaps the only time I will quibble with David on a tie-related matter.

When I've had lined ties become creased from the folder I use for travel, the creases do not seem to hang out. Marinellas have been particularly unresponsive in this regard.

Try hanging first and if that doesn't work steam them from the back, so if you do get a water spot it isn't visible.

Will,

Other than my thought that steaming should be a last resort I think that we actually agree, and I think that your idea of steaming from the back is a fantastic suggestion!

Now I think that we will need to build a better "mouse trap". A traveling tie case that produces creases is not too useful.

What do you think would be a good way to travel with ties sans creases?

I've never noticed a crease in a tie from a tie case.  And I've left the ties in there for a while.  But I have mainly silk and wool ties.

I would suggest rolling them up for travel, if you don't want to use a case.

After a few days, they look better only by hanging.

Hope they would be like new after a steam
