JIMMY RICKS - DADDY ROLLIN STONE

got that 45...

Derek Martin is the original, though...

Re: Daddy Rollin' Trad -

probably easier to find than the Derek Martin version... it's on the Atco label...

Re: Daddy Rollin' Trad -

The Who version is probably based on Derek Martin's, though. It's on some playlists from The Scene or some other cub of that time...

Re: Daddy Rollin' Trad -

It seems the Jimmy Ricks version is older than the Derek Martin one, and Derek was singing with Jimmy Ricks & the Raves at that time....

Jimmy Ricks & The Raves (Members Jimmy Ricks, Leonard Puzey, Howard Guyten And Derek Martin):

Atco 6220 - Daddy Rolling Stone / Homesick – 1962
Festival 25004 - Daddy Rolling Stone / Um Gowa (The African Twist) – 1962

Is that the local label version you saw, L_P?

Here's a little bit about the Derek Martin version on Crackerjack... It also mentions Otis Blackwell's original on Joe Davis recordings and a few other cover versions...

Re: Daddy Rollin' Trad -

Festival! That's it.

Continuing on the 'Daddy Rolling Stone' lineage, how about Oz & The Sperlings local-fied Bay Area version on Galaxy ("He got out of his car at Mc-Al--ster and Fill-More.") from 1966...
