And, as is often the case with nostalgia, it is for something which you never personally knew but just love the idea of.
Is that fair?
Ideas of a 'better' time? A world where you would be who you'd like to be?
... So...
Isn't all this defined by NOW for you & not the reality of THEN?
You don't like now & so you're yearning for another time & inventing that time in your head in the process.
Hence the lack of tradition in Trad. To be Trad you must look Trad here NOW. You can't wear the reality of the old American style because some of it just doesn't look Trad enough (Corduroy suits, Cardigans, all those Anglo touches...).
That's where your 'making a statement' gets in the way of your proposed Traditional clothing style.
You want to be Traditionalists, but the real Tradition doesn't actually fit in with your 'ideals'.
So you edit & invent & create something brand new in the process.
A thing with roots, but still something new.
No?
Half of this seems to come from your guys just simply not knowing the old tradition and the other half is, as I see it, from a deliberate perversion of the old style purely to suit your agenda. Inventing a 'Curriculum' that never was.

Yes and no: I've told you before that Trad is a part of an evolution. Trad is also linked very strongly to certain enduring social attitudes. The clothes are the tip of the iceberg.

... Which makes me say that 'Trad' is a current fashion movement pretending not to be a fashion movement as a part of its USP. All the Trad brands most mentioned, like Mercer & Bills, are modern brands playing with the idea of 'heritage' as a part of their marketing.
To be 'Trad' it has to look 'Trad' when viewed from today, nevermind the history of the real tradition.
What does Wiki say about Trad - "Watered down, revisionist & reactionary in intent"?
