Re: Tie afraid

I only wear a tie for the dressiest of occasions i.e. when wearing a suit. I'm not sure about wearing a tie 'casually' in this day and age, I don't feel inclined to do so anyway.

Re: Tie afraid

Ties are pretty much work-wear for me (not required or expected though). Usually loosened. But I will also quite often lose the tie before going out or by lunchtime out if too much is too much.

I must confess I like them for warmth as much as anything else.

The navy knit is, IMHO, the easiest to wear. Unlined vintage repp ties maybe worth a try?

Re: Tie afraid

At my job I always get asked if I have a meeting with a customer when I'm wearing a tie.
I'm the only one who wears sports jackets and odd trousers/ blazers and chino combinations, especially with knit ties...

Re: Tie afraid

re. moose: have got both.. Tried 'em too and don't feel 'easy' or relaxed really. i'd like to as it's a great look but somehow i feel i look better without..

i haven't got a dress code of any kind at work, the only thing i'd like to wear a tie / jacket combo or even a suit is only for fun, and for myself.

i do wear a jacket / chinos combo a lot, but without the damn tie! big_smile

Re: Tie afraid

Tie at work for me too. I hate the 'suit but no tie' look; it is a new uniform.

Mind you finding a wearable tie is a bit of a search. Marks and Spencer will be a waste of time.

Re: Tie afraid

Thousands of fantastic vintage ties on Ebay for pennies. I'll quite often order a couple, always nice to find them in the post and never any customs hassles.

I can't wear most contemporary ties anyway, they're too long.

Re: Tie afraid

I feel the same way about French cuffs and cufflinks, but not repp ties or knitted ties - with a button down, its the essence of Ivy.

Re: Tie afraid

I like a tie, but interesting how many looks you get wearing one around town shopping on a weekend. Sad state of affairs really.
