Beyond The Un-Ironed Shirt, The Un-Ironed Cotton Sweater -

... And I'm sporting an old Navy Landsend ('Drifter', I think) one today.

My trou (Olive Wide Wales) are pressed & my loafers (Rockport Full-Straps) have seen a shine, but I'm quite liking a bit more texture up top this Sunday.

Nothing 'Sprezzy' here.  This is just kicked back Ivy - A style which doesn't use all those rather forced Italian terms all that much...

- A 'dimpled' Oxford Cloth shirt with a Cotton Crewneck which retains some 'loft' to its surface.

Any other fans?

jj

I hate those 'sprettiza' or whatever, words that seems to used amongst the sad 'trady' types. Quite embarrasing and contrived for 40 year old mean to purposely look as if they were just getting out of bed to get onto campus.

I guess you ivy can suit someone who's 20 and someone who's 40, and should dress loosely accordingly. Otherwise it can seem a bit weird.

I'm not to be trusted & can speak only for myself & maybe a handful of mates, but 'contrived' is the word that comes most to mind to me from the OPH onwards.

... I'm in an 'Ian' mood again...  wink

contrived? when i was about 19 someone gave me a tennis sweater,  madras pants, a pink shirt, and woven k-swiss. i wore the get-up to the ghetto to get beer and/or drugs a few times, i think. i wish i had a picture, id post it with mr wasp 101.

Contrived as in men who are consciously trying to off-set their shirt collars so they looked like they were rolling out of bed at college. I dunno, just seems weird to my eyes and what do I know?! Just my viewing of the try hard type idea.

Jimmy had a point with this...  it's one of my go-to looks in warm weather: a no-name cotton cable-knit that my wife bought off a £1 in a charity shop.  Years back (around 2008) I was wearing a John Smedley cotton cardigan in two shades of blue that was just a little too 'Mod' for my liking.  The current sweater - and how Jimmy would have hated this - is just a touch 'Preppie' - but can be worn with Levis or chinos, shorts or cords.  I even ventured out for scampi and chips in it last week, with a Madras shirt beneath, Levis and Sebago deck shoes.  Not bad.

In fact, this has prompted me to buy a rather Preppie Argyle item made in Scotland by someone whose name is completely unknown to me: Interney.
