Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

l hear that American men have a fondness for suede shoes. That's an interesting observation. ls it true?

Who likes suede footwear, who are indifferent to them?

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

l have two pair; a pair of Trickers and a pair of Marboro Handmades. l wear the Trickers occasionally, but l really have to force myself. l don't care for suede at all, even had a nice suede jacket but never had the desire to wear  it.

l never see any suede dress shoos in Oz. Thank goodness.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I have six or 7 pair--wings, 2 tassel loafers (one w/ brogueing, a bit excessive I admit but I love the color), split-toe, cap toe, slip-on w/rubber sole. And I want more.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I love them, but not with suits.  I like wearing them on weekends in the fall and winter.  Also, my firm insists upon doing silly casual Fridays (if you support the charity of choice) and I wear them occassionally to show I can be casual.

Fine for casual, never worn them with a suit though. There was a pair that Will posted on his blog, blue/black G&G Oxfords, they'd be interesting under a suit, especially for smart nights out.

One pair of medium brown semi-brogues.  Good for jeans, cords and tweeds and such.  Might possibly wear them with a flannel suit.  Just not into the look with worsteds.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I love my dark brown suede Tyroleans (split toe shoe on a gunboat last, double sole) for casual and my mid brown cap brogues for wearing with a sports jacket (and sometimes a flannel suit...) And I plan on getting a pair of dark brown suede chukkas. But I agree that calf is the right choice for business.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I love suede  -  have a pair of CJ suede brogues (Swansea)  that go with almost anything casual.  Not suits. I won't wear trainers anywhere outside a tennis court, so suede is my casual footwear.  It's strange, and there's no physiological explanation I can think of, but they just feel more comfortable on the foot.

With a grain of salt.

I don't have any.  I like them, but I worry that they don't age gracefully, as opposed to calf, which does.

I can take them or leave them. I have several pairs from C&J and AE but I do not wear them much.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I've owned a number of pairs of suede shoes over the years, the last being C&J's but the left one never quite broke in right, I think there was a fault in the construction. Although they are a casual shoe, suedes seem too hot in the summer. But suede is not ideal for winter either.

Dunno' what happened to the last pair, they were C&J, so I wouldn't have discarded them so easily.

Remember back in '90 for about three months, when Morrissey and The Smiths still seemed to say something that wasn't totally juvenile, I wore a Lakeland nubuck jacket, pointed suede shoes and blue denim shirts buttoned to the top, I looked a hoho.  I remember getting on at the railway station at Hooton on the Wirral and some youngsters shouted out "There goes one of those Smiths nerds." And the young rapscallion was right.

Several, and I wear them with whatever the hell I feel like. But usually heartier fabrics.

Suede shoes are for the country, only a complete hoho would wear those in the City.
