Chalk stripes

A question for anyone in the know. Does anyone know whether bright chalk stripes should be further or closer together to give the image of slimness?

Does a double breasted jacket look better with the stripe closer together or further apart?

It seems like there are arguments both ways. Any definite way to figure this out?

Re: Chalk stripes

Closer spaced stripes are more slimming than wider ones.  However, I do not think I am alone in finding them less than elegant, especially on a DB.  A DB demands, and really is the preferred format, for wide stripes.  Another consideration is your size.  A thin man would look silly in a 1.25" stripe, whereas a 3/8" bright chalk stripe on a large figured man would be noisy.
