I have a very good book by Blunt about French art and architecture. Blunt was a cultured and urbane man albeit somewhat quixotic

Re: New Improved Inane Post of the Day Thread (50% More Snark)

... 'Destroy' is a loaded word...

Certainly the Tories of '79 changed England. And England was to be different from then on in. So in that respect the old England was 'destroyed'.

And it really did need moving on.

But I can't say that I liked where it moved on to.

Then again my suggested alternative was screaming chaos & bonfires on every street corner. A right laugh & who knows what might have come of it. Martial Law probably...

I used to love those old power cuts you know - Everything stopping and nobody being able to do anything about it...

Lovely.

Just like when the snow came down in '76 and everything stopped...

Such a pause for thought.

I used to light candles and play Scrabble with my Grandmother...

I loved the thought that life as we knew it could be destroyed just by snow...

Wot a dreamer!

... And then, as always, the thaw came and all the nasty people took up just where they'd left off...
