Anyone read Leon Gorman's book? He's the grandson of the founder.

Looks sort of interesting.
I like all the photos I've seen - I may buy it just for that.
Was the Brooks book any good?
When can we have a Press book?
Miles,
There are several (at least 3 of which I know) Brooks books that are pretty good in their own way. I'll get exact titles later. The most recent is <<Generations of Style>>. Another is about almost 100 years old, and recently reprinted, as I think Doc. Damage has pointed out. There was a very small pamphlet written in the 1980's that was superlative. I think it might be offered used on amazon.com if you're lucky. Will let you know.
I'm curioius to read the Bean book. I wonder if the agonized over the decisions to change so much of the quality and "tradition" that the company's gear formerly had.
Apart from the latest one these Brooks books passed me by.
Very interested.

In addition, there's a very good chapter on Brooks (as well as Tiffanys, LL Bean, Sears, Roebuck and some of the larger American department stores of the past) in:
Tom Mahoney's <<The great merchants;: The stories of twenty famous retail operations and the people who made them great>> (1955).
A perusal of that chapter will reveal the debt that the author of <<Generations of Style>> owes to that book.
Cheers,
H.
Looks a good read.
I'll buy it for Harry ('A vanishing way of life') for Christmas.
