He comes across as a really miserable guy.
telegenic is putting it lightly.
Stephen Fry on why he likes Wikipedia:
"...because I like to find out that I died, and that I'm currently in a ballet in China, and all the other very accurate and important things that Wikipedia brings us all."
That Peikof stuff is fucked up and anything Rand can be associated with should be avoided in my opionion. If you read the summary of points carefully, it becomes clear the writer is a nihilist who doesn't believe in anything except running his mouth and beating some long-dead horses. There are a thousand contradictions, lies, and deceits in that short summary. I will explain what I mean later, if anyone gives a damn.
Hopefully HOrace will return and comment, as I know he just luuuuvs that evil old witch and her followers.
"Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you like about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos."
Ok, I get your point. Yes, those are 1-sentence over-simplifications, but not so much more than your Chomsky quote, methinks. I'm still not sure what contradictions and lies you saw in it but that's beside the point.
I'm not trying to push Rand to people who are allergic to it, sorry if it sounded that way (though I certainly recommend the book). What was more interesting to me is to see Chomsky and Peikoff, at two opposite ends of the philosophical spectrum, reach a similar conclusion: the US are moving towards some form of fascism.
(Of course, they have a different view of what fascism is and which aspects are most likely to come up first. But still...)
