It must be tough to want to talk about Classic Traditional American clothes when you know nothing about the subject...
This might be a bit of an Ivy confession but I much prefer side vents. I know I look for the hook, but secretly I wish my sacks had side vents. Ever seen Harry Morgan's character on the 1968 Dragnet series? His sack suit had side vents AND patch pockets.
I prefer side vents as well. But it's not a dealbreaker either way. just say NO to no vents

I must dig out that pic of a marked-waisted, natural-shouldered, darted, double-breasted Seersucker odd jacket from Brooks Bros from back in the day... It's in "Generations Of Style"...
- But what do Brooks know about the American Tradition anyway? They just aint "Trad"!
I flicked through "Generations Of Style" in the night - The last member of the Brooks family to run Brooks Brothers is pictured in a darted, double breasted, non-kissing (spaced) 2 on the cuff, three piece suit. Winthrop Holly Brooks: President of Brooks 1935-1946. Very American Traditional, but not remotely Internet "Trad"...
And he looks totally American too - Not English or Italian.
Oh ye "Trads" - Where is your Tradition?
Could it be that what you are really into is the old single-breasted 3/2 roll, natural shoulder Ivy League style, but you just don't know that much about it? You know the Preppy Handbook, but before that you get a bit lost?
No shame in that. You can always learn. If you want to.
Start by using the correct terms for things & rejecting made-up internet marketing constructs.
I'm only here to help
