Ivy As Hell: The Corduroy Jacket.

The Cord Sack or Slack jacket covers more bases than most in the spectrum that is the American Ivy League Look.
It dresses up, but never too far. It dresses down, but never too far!
Fawn (Brooks called it 'Tan') & Olive (Brooks called it 'Beechwood') were standard, but that was just them.
Medium Wale fabric was also standard, but, again, that was just them.
It's an Ivy Item with which you can do a lot.
$195 from Brooks in '87. Same styling as their Makers Tweeds: 3/2, natural shoulder, patch & flap with upper welt pocket, swelled edge to the lapel, spaced 2 on the sleeve, etc.
A great item for Autumn & Spring.

I wear my burgundy one far more than I ever would have that I would
yer totally right about dressing up/down but never too far

I'm still wearing my dark navy John Simons cord sack suit that I got married in in 2000. Johnny convinced me to buy 2 pairs of trews for the suit which was a smart move. Second pair still have the tags on.

Knitted tie is OK, as are cords - but no way you can take the curse off the corduroy coat.

Wow, cord jackets and blazers seem to carry heavy cultural backpacks. I have one brown cord jacket, sort of mid-whale cord from Ralph.Nothing fancy, three buttons, no roll. Yes, I already noticed, I'm more the janitor of the Ivy look you guys are attending.
I rarely wear it because
1. it is almost bulletproof heavy
2. I never know what to wear with it. Khakis? Jeans? What do you match yours with?

Both Khakis and Jeans are good. Flannels work too. If you can think above the baggage then it's an easy fabric to work with.

This inspired me to get my cord jacket out tomorrow. Forecast is 14 degr. Celsius, should work.
I imagine it to be tricky to match flannels with a cord jacket without looking too "old". Would the flannels be dark grey?

As far from sharp as you can get. Skins would never wear corduroy jackets.
I like tweed now but back in the day it was old man's stuff.
I have never lost my loathing for corduroy jackets though. Same goes for velvet jackets but you do not see them now.

and my Italian one is maroon, btw... not my favourite colour, but it's got a very American shoulderline...
