My wife spent a year on a teacher exchange in Oz and tells me that students must wear hats in the schoolyard by law as part of their uniform -- any s'truth to that?

i think it would be a mistake to think hats wee making a comeback amongst the mainstream public .. the subcultures mentioned above may have adopted certain types of hat as a tribal symbol but most men through the classes are not going to wear a hat .. the most acceptable hat worn on cold days is a flat cap but i think they look most inelegant (unless you actually are walking your dog or similar) ..
i own a brown trilby and i wear it with a covert navy coat or alternatively casually with cords & tweed jacket .. when i do it definately does attract glances as its out of the ordinary .. some dont get it .. & probably wont get it for a jolly long time until some fashionista type brings it back to life no doubt.
