Dormeuil

No-one ever seems to mention this fabric on the forums. What do people think about it, good?

Re: Dormeuil

Dormeuil Tonik of good ole times is one of my favourite suitings materials.
They've remade it recently (I mean, in the same -more or less- substantial weight and moihair percentage they used to do. Not to be confused with the more lightweight versions, Tonik 2000 etc. ).
Dormeuil Sportex is great for sportjackets, IMO.

Re: Dormeuil

I have never had any trouble with Dormeuil cloth. Some of the fabrics are more contemporary and I think because many of the most active posters are "retro" if not "repro" DOrmeuil's reputation suffers because they dont make 15oz suit fabrics.

Amongst other items, I have a dinner jacket from a midnight blue barathea they made which is beautiful and performs well.

Haven't we discussed Dormeuil before? Anyway, it's great stuff. They have some 'advanced' cloths fit for aspiring dandy.

Re: Dormeuil

Thanks for feedback. l wasn't sure how good it was, seemed decent, but hard to really know from a swatch.

Re: Dormeuil

I can tell you that Mr. Corvato likes Dormeuil a lot. He also likes Loro Piana. Because I have seen some of the League of extraordinary igents bash both cloth merchants, I have asked him about performance etc... and he says there are no such issues with either merchant's cloth.

However, bear in mind that he doesn't make suits for iGents, he makes for men who really have influence, success and power; many even have manners. That means that the poverty of the mind never comes into play because they just want what they want. I myself wear a suit/jacket for a couple of years, get bored and then get something new made up. The purchase based on cloth lasting for 40 years is ridiculous to me.

He had some nice cashmere samples from Dormeuil too. l had to resist that, got other more practical fabrics l need before that extravagence.

Re: Dormeuil

Today I looked for the first time at their linen / cotton / silk bunch and was very impressed. Although rather on the expensive side (make that - quite seriously expensive) I have ordered an odd jacket in a linen + silk blend - can’t remember if its 200 or 230 gram but I think the later, it has a lovely hand and an example made for another customer demonstrated that it makes up very well.

True to my English heritage it will have a very pale matching lining but with some interesting multi-colour stripes for a bit of pizzazz most will not see :-)

Hope the summer lasts long enough for me to get some use out of it this year!
