The worrisome part is mention of  auctions. There are, or were several outlets near Hollywood who sold clothing from the studios. I went along once. My host scored ( everything in California is 'scored' from sexual conquest to job and discounted milk) 5 white button down shirts. 2 had heavy makeup collar soiling and the third was badly frayed. But written on the tag was SAM ELLIOT and some forgettable T.V. movie.
I looked at a pair of Dehner riding boots that didn't fit and were laquered in some product sold for salted roads in New York or something
My coworker wore those shirts to work and in a week bagan growing a huge moustache and affecting this odd squint to the point our boss sent him for a drug test. Another coworker said he was calling her 'darlin' with this really wierd gravelly voice.
If those Dehners had fit him, he could have been Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet.
