Seersucker and Blazers ...

How to Rock Seersucker - WSJ.com
"For sartorial traditionalists, the first weekend in May, when the Kentucky Derby takes place, ushers in the start of seersucker weather.    Seersucker, a striped cotton fabric with a slightly wrinkled surface, connotes Southern gentlemen in a full suit with white bucks, but with men's fashion enjoying a preppy moment, young men can find fresh ways to wear seersucker without looking like their grandfathers.    Sometimes it's as simple as breaking up the suit, says Jeffrey Ammeen, design director at the century-old menswear company Haspel. Mr. Ammeen, a former professional musician who still plays lead guitar in a band, considers himself a non-traditionalist. He owns four seersucker suits and prefers his "tea-stained" versions, in which the white stripes are more off-white; softening the white stripes gives the fabric a more vintage feel."

Re: Seersucker and Blazers ...

I DID wear it ONCE. I was invited to attend the big horse show in Louisville. My host's partner couldn't go and the airfare, hotel and box seat would have gone unused. We were almost identical in size and build so into this bue and white affair I went.
I developed a taste for grits and Kentucky girls are interesting. Foster's famous song has been made PC and seersucker is like this evil weave that lost out to paper or plastic at the grocery store.

I don' know, I have not busted out the Seersucker just yet...and I live in NOLA too. The LATimes is not nearly as funny as the NYTimes. You'd almost think the LATimes writer wasn't even trying to be funny.

I had a couple of short-sleeved button-down seersucker shirts (one light blue on grey; the other red on grey) in the late 80s. I kind of miss them now -- I can't imagine that anybody still makes them.

Re: Seersucker and Blazers ...

A significant % of men will not wear blazers, bomber jackets, trenchcoats, peacoats etc.
We were issued this stuff and had to wear it for a specific duration regardless of season, usually getting shot at by other men in pith helmets and thongs.
I just had a personal epiphany why I never joined FL.

Hey, Kav and Hepcat. I spent some time writing that up about blazers. Take your street brawl to another thread or pm. Shoo.

Re: Seersucker and Blazers ...

Thank you, gentlemen.  I appreciate the information and will utilize it when commissioning pieces.  What do you think about the lighter color fabrics for a blazer?  The lighter blues, grey or even tan?

Re: Seersucker and Blazers ...

Gentlemen since you have been so good as to let me hijack this thread--although I think it may nearly be on point now--I want to ask you to give me your thoughts on this jacket.  I am not looking for anyone to rip Wil,  for whom I admire, but just your general thoughts on how it could be improved or altered to make it  more. . . . enticing?

I know the buttons could be done differently.
