The navy sportscoat
What are people's thoughts on wearing navy sportscoats?
To me a navy sportscoat is alittle frumpy, something old blokes wear with grey or bone trousers. l've been agonising about having a coat custom made but l feel it might be a mistake because of the potential `old man factor'.
ls there a way to wear a navy sportscoat with pizzazz?

I have three (linen, wool, cashmere) which I consider wardrobe staples. But then, I'm gettin' old.............

Shooie, do you mean sport coats (e.g., with horn buttons) or the classic blazer, typically with metal buttons but sometimes MOP? It would make some difference to the discussion.

I probably have a half dozen of these, in flannel, hopsack and plain old wool. They are an absolute staple for me, and are very easy to dress to..

Unless a plain navy jacket is configured as blazer with metal or MOP buttons, it looks to me too much like an orphaned suit coat that has been pressed into service.
In my part of the USA, I don't think they are common. I see a fair number of traditional (metal button) blazers, but I don't recollect when I have ever seen a navy sport coat, as opposed to a blazer.
