Operation Paprika

Style Forum topic. Posters offering Hungarian handmade shoes.

The styles are not my cup of tea. They are fairly agricultural - not sleek city shoes. They remind me of Freeman Hardy and Willis in the early 60s -clumsy-looking. This poster sums it up nicely.

Anyway, deliveries are arriving and now a fight is breaking out. One side saying the maker cannot do decent broguing etc. The other denying the charges.

Shoes are not expensive but for that money I would be going to Cliff in Northampton whose work has far more appeal to me.

Re: Operation Paprika

Paprika are worth it just for the shoe trees fitted by Mr Kalman Berta. Amazing! Mr Berta didn't have KISS lasts to help him, he just sanded the things down and made them fit. He (Kalman Berta) is one of the few stars left in Europe who has the skills to carve lasts and trees from scratch, so his trees are works of art...a masterpiece! l'm so greatful to have great art specially made by this man, l feel very very lucky.

Fritzl has done amazing things with this project:
*  helps Mr KISS in retirement (he's had a hard life, he deserves a break)
*  got Kalman Berta to specially make trees for KISS shoos. Apparently that wasn't easy for Fritzl to make that happen.

Sure some of the KISS may not be perfect, but it's the spirit of the Paprika project that really matters.

The spirit =

1). Mr KISS and his life
2). Kalman Berta becoming involved
3). Fritzl taking hours out of his time to make his vision happen

All three men are passionate about what they are doing. lt's a lovely heart warming feeling, you can feel their spirit.

Re: Operation Paprika

I'm not keen on the styling, but I appreciate what Fritzl is doing.

Re: Operation Paprika

The other point I would make is that this style of shoes goes best with Mittel European menswear.  Tracht I think they call it. Loden coats, jackets that button to the neck etc.

They would probably look fine doing a promenade around Bad Gastein, but it is not my style. Douglas Hurd wore a Loden coat but the rest of the wardrobe is not really worn in the UK.

I don't think I could 'rock' this look :-

I would get found out as my German is limited to about half a dozen words.
