Whiskey, whiskey, and more whiskey. In the past week:
Aberlour 16 yo
Eagle Rare 17 yo
Pappy Van Winkle 20 yo
Pappy Van Winkle 23 yo
Jack Daniels Single Barrel
Old Forrester Birthday Bourbon 1990
Hudson Baby Bourbon
^All sensible choices.
Bought some Provenance bottled single barrel Caperdonich yesterday, a mothballed distillery. A mere 12 year old, too young for me.
My mission this weekend is to stock up on Southern Tier Brewery Co's Gemini beer and some superlative whiskies to help me see out the merry month of June.
As I posted in another current post; I bought a bottle of 10 year old Laphroaig. I want very much to explore other single malts. Tommorow I haul my midden of recyclables out. I want to buy a brace of proper tumblers. My idiot brother stole the old Waterford ship's decanter and glasses promised me.
Today I bough a pack of ripe-as-can-be-but-more-tasteless-then you-can-imagine-tomatoes, some chicken thingys, a bottle ot cava and a packet of hob-nobs*.and also I bought a box of sea-shell chocolates.
Yep. Laphroaig for me every time - I'm an Islay man through and through and the peatier the better - ipso facto - Laphroaig.
Today I bought some pegs.... from the pound shop.
I didn't buy, but received a nice gift today. I dropped into our local brit import shoppe. The owner is a charming scottish lady. It's a fun place. All the local expat brits shop there. I met actor Alan Rickman visiting another local actor there. He was genuinely pleased and suprised with me. I saw him in London in 1998 when he performed Antony and Cleopatra and thanked him for a memorble evening. It was my one all to brief trip to England. He is thought of a villian character actor and grossly underappreciated.
But back to today. I told her I bought a full bottle of Laphraiog and needed a proper tumbler or snifter. She smiled and disappeared behind the curtain of the stockroom.
I was gifted a handblown tumbler with bubbles and the character of a roughly blown
glass more than a few generations old. I was told drinking single malts is serious business and warned not to fill it MORE than halfway.
She wasn't really open, just stopping by to put the US and Union Jack out for Memorial Day.

^ Will it crease up though ? I expect linen to be plain colours and PoW to be substantial woollen cloth.

I've ordered a Steve McQueen styled (apparently) mac from Albam.
Should've been £280, but it's been £99 in the sale, and they have (only) my size left.
Worth a punt, and I can return it if I don't like.
