From what I understand, Manton is not just a regular-joe contributor over at AAAC. He is certainly protected by the moderators from anyone who effectively calls into question his knowledge of a subject. (And frankly, I find him a verbal bully.) I also understand that he has been a moderator there in the past. All of these factors can lead to a certain antipathy towards him by those spuriously banned by AAAC.

I think what irked Manton most is not about the money, it is because he knew he'd never own a Beaman suit, which might be the last piece of his sartorial jigsaw.

Without going into DB's personal issues, as I don't know what they might be, where Darren ran into difficulties is the very nature of making "bespoke" clothes in the UK, where everything is farmed out, and farmed out to different outworkers, further exacerbating problems already inherent in outsourcing the making of clothing. From my personal experience, the system is rife with inconsistency in quality control because much of the production is out of the hands of the originating tailor, literally. And, God help you, if you place an order for multiple suits (As I had the misfortune of doing, with a number of tailors in the UK), it's entirely likely that each suit will be made by a different person, and each suit will have differences, from subtle to significant. In my case, trousers arrived with differing lengths and varying cuts. Jackets suffered from inconsistent fit and lengths. It's truly staggering that the trade has survived as long as it has, but maybe this is a devolution unfolding the past few years. Lucky me.

I have to say that even though I imagine DB to be a crook and really have nothing against the Man, it makes me laugh with delight that Bry2000 got ripped off as he seems like the kind of jerk who deserves it.

I agree that the AAAT Trads are an extremely orthodox bunch. More Catholic than the Pope, when it comes to J Press. However, MisterMan's tirades against them whenever they questioned anything he did were over the top. (And the shoes were rightly described as inelegant. However, the brogued buck was quite interesting.)

Thing is MM is there for a reason & hired to do a job.
The Trads want 'The Curriculum'... (Based on quite what, Lord knows!)
MM wants to expand, open up, reach out, & make money for Press.
He works in a business not a museum.
He's gonna do what he's gonna do.
'Trads' must pray he keeps them in his mix to enough of an extent to keep them 'happy'.
Havent they noticed how things are changing under MM?
He's not narrowing down & looking backwards like them. He's facing forward and moving ahead. More for the mix.
And as he says - You don't like it? Shop elsewhere.
If 'Trads' spent more they'd have his attention.
They don't.
So MM is looking for new customers.
I'm pretty orthodox... But I'm really interested in what he's going to do next.

The banning of Misterman just shows everyone how draconian that AAAC forum is; your disagreement with the groupthink over there is enough for eternal exile.
I remember a poster called Mr.Chatterbox who expressed dissatisfaction with Manton's book and his post was then edited.
