J.Crew: Prep or Ivy?

Nothing to get excited about.  They claim it as their own.  I bought a cheap white button-down, mostly for court appearances.  Gap/Banana Republic standard?

Re: J.Crew: Prep or Ivy?

the shit is still cut pretty nicely, with some decent patterns here and there, when they dont lurch into prep absurdity. 10 yrs ago or so the quality was 1000 times better. but thats more or less every brand i guess.

Yeah, this is very, very plain.  Nice soft collar; a bit crinkly.  £1.99 off Ebay.

Re: J.Crew: Prep or Ivy?

J. Crew in '90 wasn't bad at all. Inexpensive, but the quality & cut were good for the price level.

Whatever happened to The Country Store Of Concord? They were like an Ivy 'Gap' in New England in the '80s - Tan Suede Baracuta G9s for $49 in one memorable sale!

Article about J.Crew in Daily Telegraph  today (page 32) which says it all.

Re: J.Crew: Prep or Ivy?

Crew has been on a downward slide for some time. Used to work there in the 90z when they had a diferent look. Reminds me of RLP today. I dig some of their collabos though.

Re: J.Crew: Prep or Ivy?

I saw a reasonable-looking unstructured plaid cotton jacket of theirs on Ebay about a fortnight ago.  The shirt I had is the only item of theirs I ever bought and I had to read my own post in order to remember having owned it.
'Concord' appear to have sunk without trace other than a tie or two on Ebay.  Those jackets Jimbo mentioned sound rather pleasing.

Re: J.Crew: Prep or Ivy?

Are J.Crew another victim of outsourcing?  I would expect this to be the case.
