Remembering Globe Trotter (mine are all in the attic at home now) the Navy was always The One to get, not the Black.
England being the land of strange signs & symbols at school the best trunks were the Navy but really scuffed & beaten up to hell. So broken down was mine that I had to have a new one from Peter Jones in my 4th year. The Shame of turning up with a brand new trunk! I took a cricket stump to mine & kicked it around a bit before I went back.
Goodness Mummy was cross!
Goodness, even GQ is featuring Globetrotter luggage:

Used to have better luggage that required strength to carry it through the terminal. I then deposited it as a sacrifice to the baggage handlers, who seemed to have a problem with belting leather. Now it's wheeled and cheap (Travelpro). We don't even have a matched set, but we do usually dress for a flight. The Globetrotter sure is classic but needs a skateboard under it.
You can get wheeled Globe-Trotters. For check in I use old Samsonites. The prospect of them getting lost haunts me enough that I don't need a darling and dear luggage to compound my fears. For carry on I have a navy 18" Globe-Trotter. I am thinking of adding one of the smaller attaches in either orange or the light blue in the Cruise collection.
