American Tailors stock Gaziano & Girling RTW next month

l was shopping this arvo when Sebastian told me that he was getting a new highend shoe in from England. l asked him what they were and he said "they are only a small firm and you probably haven't heard of them" lol. l pressed him further and he told me it was G&G. My face lit up like a big old X-mas tree and l nearly fell over. smile

lt's a dream come true, i've been dying to see a pair in the flesh and l feel extremely lucky. The business said they are going to try to keep the prices below $1,500, but i'll believe it when l see it.

The shoos will be very modern and flashy, very different to the usual traditional models they offer by C&J. l'm definately up for a pair if the designs aren't too crazy, but l feel l will have fit issues and won't end up with a pair.

So now Australia has Edward Green, G&G, C&J and Church's in Melbourne, and Perth has limited models of John Lobb. That is really good going for Australia. Edward Green shoo trees cost around $250, very steep, what do they normally cost in the U.K?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
l  saw two shoo brands for my first time today, the AS and a pair of Alden so it was a special day. l've been really itching to see `em for years and years, and today l did, so i'm extremely happy and bright today. lt's probably not a big deal to you blokes, but it was a huge deal to me. Couldn't even get my foot in the Aldens so my dream of owning Alden whiskey longwings is all over and i'm going to have to reluctantly accept it and live with the dissapointment for the rest of my life. mad

Anyway...l better stop rambling on about shoos, you guys must think i'm ready for the nut house.   lol l was so excited about looking in the shoo shops that l couldn't even sleep last night; l almost run to the shops today.

Re: American Tailors stock Gaziano & Girling RTW next month

I saw a few pairs of G&Gs when I was in Japan at the beginning of the year and they are really beautiful shoes.
The finish is quite astonishing - even the black shoes have enormous depth to the finish. Looking at them made me feel as though I was looking down into a slightly moonlit sea at night.

Beautiful soles and overall finishing, too. I'm not surprised that they'll be that expensive as the G&G for RL Purple Label shoes that I saw must have been equivalent to around $1400 and shoes in Australia are typically more expensive than in Japan.

By the way, I don't know what models of C&J are stocked by American Tailor in Melbourne, but have you heard that Herringbone now stocks C&Js. At present, they are only stocked in Sydney but they will hopefully roll them out to other cities in the not-too-distant future. Whilst pricing is higher than if ordering from Pediwear, Bodileys etc, it's actually not too bad, particularly when compared to the absolutely outrageous prices charged by other stores carrying English shoes in Australia ($995 for corrected-grain Churchs!?!?).

Ed Greens at John Cutler are about $1500, and i would say they are on par with G&G
there all gemmed though. Theres a giant flaw in all those shoes. Handwelting ftw

Edit:  if i hadnt started my latest project i would be all over the Cleverly idea if they came down.

The last is at cliff, all up its now (after I pay for the final bill) about AUD$1100, that’s my shoe budget for this year anyway, the benefit of G&G is the beautiful uppers and finishing you get, shame they match the lovely uppers with a gemmed construction. With cliff the welt is (hand) stitched to the insole and the welt is machine stitched to the sole, that was the original point of Goodyear machines, the welt to the sole, and that was a solid construction which built the good name for Goodyear welting, sadly when corners were cut and gemming was used it defeated the purpose of Goodyear welting.
edit
i made test shoes out of leather, same as the french guy off SF that made his own shoes, i forget his name, shoefan or somthing. they fit better than my RM.W's a little more snug but support way more in the arch and the arch side of the foot.

you can get bespoke quality uppers for an up charge of about 70pounds, his standard uppers are on par with benchgrade C&J's

Re: American Tailors stock Gaziano & Girling RTW next month

l went in to see my first pairs of G&G today. Bevelled sole = meh. Last shape = meh. l really liked this model:
http://www.gazianogirling.com/stjames.html

l'm still struggling to work out my size, because when l tried them on the owner wouldn't let me walk around in them for fear that l may crease the uppers. lt's a pity because it could have been a sure sale had l been more confident of my size. l even sized up 1.5 for these shoos to 8.5F, but l feel an 8G could be the best fit. l was surprised how narrow the heel area is, it is narrower than many any of the other English shoo brands, perfect. Will take some getting used to....very very slick. l was lucky to get him to take them out of the big box upstairs, he didn't want to, but l wasn't taking no for an answer haha.

l was shocked to see a sale of some of the C&J models, 50% off for Saville monk and a suede loafer. As usual nothing fot my feet.

Sabastian also told me how much my Vass shell cordovan Budapesters suck. He said they were unsexy, ugly, and look cheap and fat. lol l just smiled and agreed because he's not far wrong lol.
