Black with navy often works. Technically it shouldn't but it looks smart, especially a black torso covering under a navy jacket. Generally I find that if black is the accent color it works better. A black tie under a navy suit looks good but a black suit with a navy tie I am not as sure of.
Also, red figures on navy ties laid on top of a white shirt. It always looks good. There is not earthly reason why it should but it does.
Any other combinations members are amazed look good together?
Light blue shirts with brown jackets and suits. Pink shirts and navy blazers (hardly revelatory). Brown wool twill pants with camelhair jacket (won't wear brown pants unless they're twill and, no, have no problem with the UPS uniform). Medium gray worsted trousers with olive sport jacket (summer).

A charcoal tie on a pink, lilac, mauve or lavender shirt. it shouldnt work but it does.
Certain shades of brown jackets and grey trousers. I'm surprised by how many variations look good.
Pink shirt with grey or blue suit.
Black suit (10 oz serge, slight drape, 3-roll-2 ½ button, full cut trousers w/ double reverse pleats and cuffs), dark oak punch cap oxfords, black/brown diagonal stripe OTC socks, black/white pencil stripe shirt (wide spread collar, barrel cuffs), taupe w/ large black and white over plaid silk print tie, white cotton pocket square. It is possible to wear a solid black suit in the daytime and look entirely daytime. My grandfather would have finished this off with a deep red boutonniere, and so would I for lunch with my wife.
