Why do I turn away now each time I see Haggar? I once owned a lovely shirt of theirs. Now, more Third World crap. Bean: variable beyond a joke. I was once given one of their polyester shirts. Given, you understand. Ebayed it swiftly.
I bought a Haggar 'Forever New' half sleeve, made in China at J Simons sale a couple of years ago. It is very serviceable but I have had better. Truth be told J Simons shirt selection was not great.
Uniqlo have a lot of decent stuff but their sizes are a problem. OK if you are 15.5 not so good if you are 17.
i dont get what you limeys ever saw in haggar. low-end department store crap, aimed at the likes of milton in office space. their motto is "Stuff you can Wear" for cripes sake. their iconic piece is shiny, 100% polyester pleated slacks. did they have really nice stuff for the export market or something?
EDIT: their imperial line of sportcoats can be pretty nice looking, for something by Haggar. but with 1000 even better options for tweed jakcets, why?

Yes, looking at some of their 'vintage' offerings on Ebay, I see exactly what you mean. My guess is, if it was American there was an interest. I can't get excited about Farah, but some did. If the look was right - the rise etc. - someone would go for it, in the absence of anything better. Oddly enough, Joe Public in limey-land are often sniffy about Farah now, castigating it as just pensioner-wear: not unlike the new breed of Gant: oft to be seen on nebbishes and oddballs. Too wavy now, too overground. Like Lands End, Champion etc. You begin seeing it around, you know it's dead.
thats another one, farah.was surprised to read of its popularity with casuals in the 80s. i associate it with H-Dogg the ghetto accountant in the Onion. yet another is fruit of the loom-known here only for what i think you guys call Y-fronts.
There's a rumour circulating that Farah are making a comeback.
I was chatting to the guy servicing our boiler a few weeks back and he was enthusiastic about jumbo cord. Can't say I am.
Bean never really went away; was simply outsourced all over the place. I have a couple of USA-made flannel shirts that see plenty of wear in the winter.
Haggar Imperial... a beater tweed jacket...
I stand by what I said to Dennis back then. Haggar was certainly being offered at Russell Street - still seen as a fairly kosher, Boom Years, name. An Imperial jacket can be had for the price of a lager shandy. But the newer stuff pops up every now and then in charity shops and is pretty awful. But then so is modern London Fog - not even as good as J.Crew or A&F. Well, about on a par. Which ain't saying very much.
It's also as well to remember that Jimmy constantly and repeatedly emphasised The Look. Be it ever so humble, The Look was what counted.
