Hi. Learning a lot from you guys! Is it ok to wear balmoral boots without socks in the summer? Cheers!

Re: New Improved Inane Post of the Day Thread (50% More Snark)

Popeye, welcome to the forum! I have found, in my experience of wearing balmoral boots, which is extensive, having owned a pair of balmoral boots since 1968, which was the year my cousin Charles Fotheringay graduated from Harvard, and eventually went on to become a vice-president at our family savings bank in Terre Haute, that a socking is indicated in most cases and that furthermore, in a hot-weather summer type situation, in which the temperature often becomes rather high, and thus causes the feet to sweat, that a balmoral boot worn socklessly often offers a rather inferior comfort type utility, and that undue perspiration of the footward member can also cause damage to the fine footwear leathers, and that it is therefore incumbent upon me to disrecommend such a pursuit, although of course YMMV, though I think fondly and often of the fact that, on my shelf, in my boot closet, beneath my more robust winter bootings a pair of excellent balmoral boots still rests, beneath a flannel footwear bag, where I left them after wearing them to the Ponderosa steakhouse in the company of my lovely wife and my surviving parents, who enjoyed an evening of splendid dinings, despite the unpleasantness of seeing a Person wearing dungaree shorts and a graphic undershirt; I understand that among the best people dungaree shorts are considered a "false pas" and that also, they might begin to look unfavorably upon a Person who would wear balmoral boot without a socking, if only because Gentlemen respect the quality of their fine shoe-leathers and do not wish to see them abused, although with my son in law Gary, who once visited Harvard, little care is often taken of shoe maintenance and leather nourishments :-)

Re: New Improved Inane Post of the Day Thread (50% More Snark)

Nephews and uncles - In my closet hangs a fine checked odd jacket that I wore while on honeymoon in Shoreditch with my lovely wife, and underneath it on a shelf rest a pair of factory second Loake PTBs which I obtained on a deep discount and had delivered to my home in the United States, and within these Loakes lie a pair of Unicorn brand shoe trees, and for many years from these shoe trees excellent performance was derived!

I have found Filene's basement to be an excellent source for attire, and have on two occasions there obtained from the clerk a sizeable discount on white linen pocket squares which have, from the sun, become discolored.

Mr. Doyle, enjoy your wedding and please send us photos of your attire! My wedding was officiated by a man who had recieved trainings in theology from the Harvard divinity school though I later found that he had made inappropriate advances on my wife's sister, who once worked in the office of the HVAC company, that was employed by Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates.
