Andy stalwart Hanzo asks: "From time to time I read a thread about someone owning a high quality pair of shoes and going on and on about how comfortable they are. I makes me wonder, am I missing something?"
In a word, yes. Indeed you are. Excellent question, sir, and the answer is a resounding yes, more than you'll ever know...

jwa jwa jwa's grasp of American vernacular is fairly weak (excusable as he comes to us from Greenwich CT)--they are, and have been for hundreds of years, called shoe shine STANDS, not shoe shine places. And you're right, very few Andyvians would be caught dead working in one of them because it would take them at least 95 minutes to decide whether to use cream or polish and the eventual choice would be wrong and there would not be any customers.

Classic igent dilemma. ''I can't even go to Disneyland without someone asking me where the lost children booth is.''

Hilarious until you remember the penalty for disagreeing with him is death.

So Let me get this straight. Original post proposed by someone who cannot even afford a Jos A. Bank suit. Subsequent rants by those who have sunk their money on either firm?
If that ain't inane, I don't know what is.
This might suit the original poster on AAAC.
Saint Cajetan's feast day is celebrated on August 7. He is known as the patron saint of the unemployed, gamblers, job seekers and good fortune.
When it comes to inanity, this thread is "Action packed".

Worrying how other people dress is as bad as people asking you why you are well dressed.
I never get anyone I care about (actually or potentially) commenting that their square toed shoes are superior to my shoes. I usually get positive comments on my clothes. And, when the person is well adjusted, talented and attractive, it's a segue for flirting or a "one and done comment" signaling respect, admiration etc...
As soon as someone gets too involved with my clothing, they're either in the biz or they're some sort of fruitcake...like an iGent.
Clothes are social, mannered, glib etc etc. Uptight, controlling, judgmental, asexual prudes have about as much grip on clothing and style as your garden variety skunk.
