something close to my heart

Hello everyone , this is a request for information about a film which affected me profoundly but of which I have little recollection . It must have been around 1975 I saw this film in London . The subject was about unrest in post-war Italy and employment issues , anyhow it moved me to tears and as these same issues have re-introduced themselves into my life I would like to see this film again to help clarify the situation . The title consisted simply of the year eg 1940 but no Google search has been of help . My memory fails me about the cast members ; I thought Charlton Heston was in it but his film list indicates that this is not so. I would appreciate any help .

Thanks

Leo

Sounds like Il Conformista (The Conformist).

Could it be "1900"?
