Interesting site for a venerable London shoemaker, who make periodic trips to the US. Informative "Q&A" section...

Marc, are you a customer of theirs?
Sometimes i wonder about the whole Since 1825 bit.
If you are incompetent and do a lousy job or havent any taste, being in businesss for 100 years doesnt mean much because there are plenty of people who will buy lousy stuff. Experience needs to go hand in hand with talent. I buy from places that have been open for less than a year if I like their things.
If the experience and the talent are there then I agree that time produces refinement but how are we to know that's the case based merely on how long the firm has been operating?
I am also not impressed by royal warrants.
It's OK rich, and the holidays are enough to add a little stress to anyone's tie space.
I agree that men get fleeced on a regular basis in these clothing stores, but there's a flip side. Good people who know their stuff get abused by neurotics who read a little bit here and there, then go storming in and demand their rights, warning everyone ahead of time that theyre not to be messed with.
