Re: THE Sweater -

I've found a nice Shetland in a rich camel colour that has all the 'right' details. Bought it from this gents shop here in town that is very much geared towards the UK stocking Grenfell raincoats, Daks sportsjackets and strides, knitwear from Alan Paine and John Smedley as well as Viyella shirts, Pantharella dress socks etc

It was made especially for them as it goes under their own label, forgot to ask by whom though. Well chuffed anyway...

Re: THE Sweater -

Sounds like a find!

- Good shop too for mixing in all those Anglo-esque elements which will go very well with your new Sack.

Re: THE Sweater -

regarding the playboy ad: looks like the "cadet" collar is buttoned? I'm totally unfamiliar with the term. Would the sweater then button all the way down, or are just a few buttons used?

Love this thread almost as I much as I love a good sweater.

Some people hate the English, I don't, they're just wankers. We, on the other hand, were colonized by wankers, Can't even pick a decent culture to be colonized by...

With various collars I've seen The Cadet called a Fatigue Sweater by some.

All the woolovers stuff is under £40. That includes Norwegian and big chunky stuff, but forget cashmere.

http://www.woolovers.com/

It is not far from London if you want to see the stuff rather than mail order.

Re: THE Sweater -

... And the Woolovers Norwegian, albeit made in Blighty to an original Norwegian pattern, is more of a Norwegian than the Norway made one for LL Bean.

It's truer to the genre. Not such a watered-down gimmick item for the Yank market.

Re: THE Sweater -

I got a lovely NOS Shetland from ebay this week - camel colour, saddle shoulder, but a v-neck, rather than a crew (by M and S, would you believe - 70s vintage I think). I also bought a very reasonable Shetland crew by White of Hawick - in a rust colour - but with no saddle shoulder.

What I really want is a camel or off white saddle shoulder Shetland with a crew neck....... I've e-mailed Jamieson's.

It's funny, but during my research I've realised that traditional Scottish knitware firms have uniformly terrible websites - which is nice in a way.

Re: THE Sweater -

THE sweater is actually a navy blue Brooks Brothers cashmere v-neck with saddle shoulders.

Accept no substitutes.

Re: THE Sweater -

I think you'll find Russell Street is a saddle shoulder man.  He'll doubtless have a better explanation than I.  The elderly Paine I'm wearing now has the feature.  Maybe, yes, it adds strength.
