Dandyism.net

Anyone notice that what 'Chenners' (its founder and an occasional blogger) is pleased to call 'D-net' has largely folded, following a walk-out by two prominent members and, in a desperate effort to keep the conversation going, it has been reduced to publishing piccies of one of the remaining members who appears to be of the 'TV' persuasion See third post down in the thread beneath? What price dandyism?! Russell Street - raise Cain!

Re: Dandyism.net

I was very active on D.net for a few years in its early days and then drifted away from it for reasons I can't fully articulate. Bottom line, I suppose, is that I was much more interested in the cultivation of contemporary masculine elegance than discussions of 19th century theories of Dandyism or trading bon mots.

Michael Mattis once visited me, and we had lunch together. He impressed me as a very nice guy. Talked to Chenners a time or two on the phone, and that was about it.

Re: Dandyism.net

Not to create controversy, although this can sometimes be fun, but I really think that NJS's take on Dandyism.net is misguided.  D.net's forum has had its ups and downs to be sure, but for the most part is made up of some excellent chaps.  Both Mattis and Christian are journalists and Christian writes for the esteemed Rake magazine (my favorite magazine).  Mr. Thompson is now a published author and other members such as the New Edwardian and Literary Syphilis have an almost encyclopedic knowledge of dandyism.  It is true that certain persons, Wellesradio for example, were at times confrontational; however, even he demonstrated a sharp wit at times.

It should also be pointed out that NJS left of his own accord.  He was not banned.  He and the forum member Wellesradio were constantly at each others throat and after one particularly nasty exchange NJS decided to leave the forum.  Some at D.net even protested this move suggesting that both he and Wellesradio just need to calm down and stop taking each other so seriously.  It is just dandyism after all.

Regardless, D.net's forum is one of the bright spots on the internet and I personally enjoy visiting them from time to time.  I would take whatever NJS is saying here with a grain of salt. wink

Your avatar looks a lot like Bobby Zamora the new England striker. Are you by any chance related ?
