Miracle on 34th St and Bowties

I was watching miracle on 34th st with my daughter this evening and I noticed that the toy store dept manager wore his bowties very well.

I also loved the clothes of the era.

I may start to wear every now and then a bowtie. Perhaps I will start with a serious looking black faille bowtie and move into Macclesfield prints.

Any thoughts/advice? I will be a novice bowtie wearer, and I am not sure what shapes I like best.

For black ties, I like the paddle shape that the Duke of Windsor wore.

Bow ties look better with vests or DB jackets, in my opinion. Bows worn with straight cut jackets without vests show too much shirt.

Nice illustration. Some things look good and have unfortunate associations...nowadays.

I like the idea of a bow tie but sadly I lack the self assuredness to pull it off.

Re: Miracle on 34th St and Bowties

Horace,

A great article. Thank you.

I love the last part. The writer clearly admires the views of others yet also follows his own vision.

I am often like that as I fall under the sway of a well written article or book very easily, but I usually do what I feel comfortable with.

Sartorial rules are ok as a framework for a young man, but wandering down our own path is usually best.

Thanks again for the article.

Whatever it's associations, I think CD's counsel that one wears it sparingly is a good one.   Else it indeed becomes trite and costumey, no?
