The Godfather of Soul has left the building.
The guy who used to manage the Boston Tea Party (a legendary Boston music venue) sent me a short email about Brown's Boston concert the night after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. While rioting broke out in many major American cities, WGBH broadcast Brown's concert at Boston Garden. Such was Brown's popularity and influence that so many people stayed home to watch him perform there was no rioting in Boston.
