There are some modern horrors - made in the Third World - not nice.
I do own a kind of camel-coloured Brooksgate duffle coat. I always thought Trevor Howard in 'The Third Man' looked cool wearing his - evidently some bona fide military number. No hood to mine, though! It was detachable, and has stayed that way.

Barbour, Burberry, Baracuta, Fred Perry, Timberland, Gap, Hilfiger... gone, gone, gone... Gant, Van Heusen, Crew, Press, Banana Republic... gone, gone, gone...
John Smedley on the cusp... B.D. Baggie definitely suspect...
However... let them all sell to the masses if they can. We still have fond memories. Barbour was one of the first things we slipped into when we fancied an unfashionable, anti-punk dash of Sloane... Burberrys' we are in process of hauling back from the brink (so long as the check remains tucked away on the inside)... But if Baracuta think that old man's jacket they're doing now is going to be worn by anyone but old men - and they can call it the G4, the G9 or the G20 and give it away with cornflakes as far as I'm concerned - they're kidding no one but themslves...
Grenfell are still cool by my reckoning. Press more or less lost me with that unshaven ponce who featured on the cover of last year's catalogue.

Oh, and Duffer at Debenhams. One two three spit two three. Skater-wear it might have been but I once paid a lot of dosh for something of theirs after much time and trouble tracking it down...
Kid's stuff.
Didn't Brooks go downhill mid 80s?
Not that I knew of them at that time.... but that's what I read...
Anyway, I still buy the OCBDs, regular fit as well as the slim fit ones, and I even got a few non-iron ones as well....
and Press, of course, still has some nice stuff, too...
However, I was never a "Press-ident".... that was just for the NYFT "story"...

'88 had the last good catalogues.
^ For Brooks.
Press' last good year was '02 or '03.
Time this had an airing. Okay, so all I've done is replace one type of golf jacket with another - or, to consider Harpo's point, I pull on my 43 pattern combat jacket. This is what I'll wear to pop out for a biryani. I stick by my original 'Chet' posting: the Baracuta G9 Harrington, as named and promoted by John Simons, has become a stylistic cliche.
In fact, I was selling the G9 and G4 through my sideline business. Out of devilment, I started one of these Rumanian made pieces of shit on Ebay at 1p.
They have indeed become a cliche and Baracuta has become quite a repugnant brand but I do still wear navy and Natural G9s (and a natural G4) with regularity. Depends how you wear them, I suppose. Admittedly, here in LA they are far from ubiquitous (except for extremely old people) so maybe that helps.....
And you can even wear them with loafers!
I wonder if JS will continue to sell Baracuta - I imagine not.......

Navy is a nice colour for almost anything.
That's how I like these jackets now - straight bottom, shirt cuffs and flapless pockets. The London Fogs are like that.
Mm... I would find that difficult...
I have two navy ones. What else? Well alright the olive gets some airing as well.
