I don't know nor claim to know the entire history of Neapolitan clothing so I'll let others here pcik apart as they feel they must but I really hope this does not turn into a nonsensical Kiton bash, which I am sure will also lead to a nonsensical Borrelli bash.  I like both brands, I wear Borrelli, don't wear Kiton as the fit is not to my liking. I feel they both make a top notch product and "value" is subjective.   I am sure there is better, as there is worse, and I am also sure that there are "truer" representatives of Naples than these two brands but, believe it or not, I actually like the way Borrelli fits me and I could not care less whether they are from Naples, London or New Jersey.

It was the post that I was referring to and not the content of the thread.  I like both brands that you mention just fine, and Borrelli is getting better each season.  My laughs were reserved for the whining pleading in the post and the idea that this guy was following Artisans around the globe like Carmen Sandiego.  Not to mention that Kiton is not a small company or necessarily an artisan of any sort in the same way that Bentley and Aston Martin are not.  Quality is not dependent on artisan.

Just from a window-shopping standpoint, I never miss a chance to pass by the Borrelli shop in NYC and enjoy the visuals.  They always assemble interesting things, especially the 3/4 coats worn over a sport coat or suit, and capture the essence of Italian style.  For all its opulence, the Kiton store's window displays are not especially interesting.  As a quick aside, I thought it amusing when the then-Borelli store manager, always dutifully extoling the virtues of Borrelli as the best, informed me that he was leaving to go to the Kiton store, when it first opened, and how Kiton was really the best  lol

So let me understand this correctly...

for 50k you get a bespoke suit that is likely the same as you would get from any other bespoke maker in Naples except for the very expensive cloth, but you have no pattern for the next one.  What a deal.

I know the guy with the Porsche.  He is a plastic surgeon and all around bad guy married to a total witch who has partaken too many times in the husband's skills.

^ loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

Btw, why did kenperes refer to Artisan Fan as Artisan Fran? I think threads where people go out of their way to bash other MBs or members of other MBs are pathetic unless there's a real reason. I don't see what's so corny about what AF said and I think the attempt at humor by feminizing his name is just ????

Maybe there's some history I'm unaware of (though nothing makes grown men look sillier than MB soap operas)...

Cheers.

Only because he was referred to as that in the thread in question.

Re: If Savile Row can have the quote of the day, so can Naples...

There was a post from "Spalla" of LL a few years back on Andy's site.  My memory may very well be faulty, and I don't know if the post went down the "memory hole" as a lot of those early posts weren't archived, but it argued, as I recall, in rather strong language, that one could do just as well (or better) with a small independent for significantly less money, as one could going with these high-profile brands.  I found the post to be a fun read.
