Gentlemen,
I just wanted to post an update to this thread. We have heard everyone who thought that our event was priced a little high. We did not want to skimp on the event so we went back and negotiated a liittle more with the Hub51 and were also the beneficiaries of a bit of a "donation" so we have been a ble to drop the price of the event to $76. I will also make this offer to anyone here. If the money is an issue, and you would like to attend, I will pick up your tab. Just PM me and I will take care of it.

To all:
It is with great disapointment that I have to announce that we cancelled the event. Unfortunately, we did not receive the financial backing from members here and elsewhere to make the event happen. I have refunded those that did pay, and we truly appreciate their support. Hopefully at another time and place we can succesfully host such an event.
At the following sites you can find the travel schedules for Alfred Sargent and Harvie and Hudson. I also believe Hemingway tailors will be at the same spots.

Perhaps a major reason for failure of this event (and the lameness of events organized by the "fora") is that the men who buy and wear high-end stuff are not learning about these events. I mean wealthy men, not internet people. Those men might not be interested in attending an event, in any case, but somehow you must find a way to reach them and keep out the riff-raff. Just thinking out loud here.

These people who own retail shoo shops need to wake up. Sitting on your bum and relying on cold marketing and hoping people come through your door won't continue to work, that's why traditional shoo shops are having problems.
Mid - high end shoo shops can be intimidating and look stuffy to average joes so they don't go inside to look. The image needs to be softened. Higher end shoe sellers need to go after customers in a different way; you can't continue to rely of people walking through your doors, that's old hat thinking.
People need to get there hands dirty, do the hard work, do the shitty jobs and rebuild customer bases. Shoe businesses have had it too easy for too long, now they need to roll their sleeves up and get tough.
That's what l plan to do for hand made footwear in Australia. l may have to work 7 days a week for 20 years to make a change, but if it's not done everything dies. Someone has to get off their bum and actually do it! + we have the internet and blogs to catch google searches and make things easier for promotion. Another important thing is learning how to use business cards properly, especially the makers that do things by hand.
For me life is not about a party anymore, been there and done that. lt's time to knuckle down and start making a difference.

lt's a good time to promote shoos in large public thoroughfares because everyone is too lazy to bother doing it. Capitalise on peoples laziness and get new customers, but the ego needs to be dropped first. Get these presidents out of the office and get them on the street talking to real people. These middle class people need to get over their lvy tower mentality. They need to be humble and not think they are above going to the people.
