Can anybody tell me the point and the purpose of these? I cannot think it is a smart or good look.
You're right. I looked like a complete tit. Now I realise the error of my ways.

Do what you have to do ... personally I feel a bit wierd if I look too young ... but everybody should do what feels comfortable.
I like them. But I like a slightly more aggressive (ish, of course) take on the style. Slightly more exaggerated, rather. But I'm in my 20s, so maybe I feel I have something to prove to the world of other people around my age. It makes me think, how subtle is the ivy look on me when many people my age, notice and comment on weejuns, wearing shirts, high rise/water chinos? Going off topic a bit there, but I think age must come into it a bit?
I did this when I was younger. Can't do it now.
But Rip! Dear chap. You ought to have got the train down to St.Pancras or Euston or whatever, had yourself a fine old evening, and you yourself could have seen just how sensational I looked in my early 60s dead stock plain front Ivy slacks. You'd have had yourself a fine old Ivy night. Afterwards it was pizza, chianti, espressi and grappa. I appreciate what you say about a confort zone but that can be suffocating at time. Check out the London scene now and again. We'd all love to see you. By the way, I have pics and video of the evening. If someone tells me how I'll post them up here, if anyone gives a shit.

As someone who actually saw them I can say they looked perfectly ok.
As JPG says they were stock 60's ivy cuffed slacks worn just off the shoe. If I have given a different impression I apologise.
Whats not to like?
There's no break, just off the shoe, a little more off the shoe, and Thom Browne/Pee Wee Herman. Depending on what else is going on, all could be acceptable, but only the first two are likely.

Seeing them in old movies, tv shows, yearbooks, take ivy, motown covers, family photos, they always look good to me. So i guess if they don't look good to you, don't wear them.
I saw an episode of Gidget where a young man was wearing what appeared to be levi 606's showing at least 2" of sock. And I believe he ended up with an attractive young lady.
Pete Duell's brother in law character had kind of an ivy league meets west coast cool style.
