Crompton is Gilchrist.
His post about his mate's glasses is here - http://permanentstyle.blogspot.com/2010/10/bespoke-glasses-at-td-tom-davies.html#comments
Yesterday I left a comment which said, "So essentially, you are being given goods worth about £300 to positively review them, even though you have neither received them nor tried them on. Is this appropriate?"
Crompton has now permitted 4 comments on the thread. When I wrote my comment there were none. He has, therefore, seen mine and blocked it. Presumably he does not feel comfortable enough about his behaviour to permit discussion about it. Or perhaps he promised the man who had paid a pair of glasses for advertising that there would only be puffs.
Some people never fail to live down to one's expectations.

He irritates me too, but l think that is because i've seen his mug in a photo.
(East Sheen, south-west London) East Cheam?? - 23 railway Cutting?
This forum software has gone bezonk - posts missing, double posts of mine - "I know nothing Mister FNB"
The most irritiating thing about Cromps is that he is never going to be within ear-smacking distance: mind you, that is also a blessing.
I was only joking, Bishop. I am sure that it is a jolly fine place. On old Cromps - of course the more traffic and hits that he can show his advertisers, the more likely he is to attract more of them - so he's going to end up with a pair of shies by each of the best makers and a dozen suits - in fact he is going to build a wardrobe, thanks to us being so curious about where he will push his nose next. There's got to be an irony there somewhere.
I'm not sure that all these firms are that into marketing, Bishop. This is how he is able to pull the wool over their eyes. I think that we should have a marksman to see what he has been up to once a week and report back here. That way he gets fewer hits AND he gets trashed. A double whammy.
Sheen is on the link road between the North Circular and the A3. So yes traffic is bad but it is close to Richmond and the park.
I was surprised to see these two :-
''Pictured are Derek and Sunna, the two tailors that made my Anderson & Sheppard suit. Derek is an old hand, having been at A&S for 25 years, while Sunna is an apprentice.'' Neither looks like a you expect a tailor to look. Derek does not look old enough to have done 25 years with AS.
...and he also remains out of ear-smacking distance...Mind you, I once worked with someone who told me that if there were a team, I could "irritate for England" which, I have to say, I rather relished at the time...
LOL!
Down with the Internet pussies who won't join the fray - They stay in their little self-controled blogs and pontificate their little hearts out.
Cowards.
It's the world of 'because I say so' without the balls to really ever back up their positions.
I've no respect for any of them.
Crompton-watch continues with quite the most self-regarding post thus far written - http://permanentstyle.blogspot.com/2010/10/wine-red-socks-with-grey-suit.html
Note please that Crompton is now an expert on trouser/shoe/sock combinations. This expertise is fresh and the photograph suggests that it is also illusory. However, Compo is ready for this and reveals that the shoe is not the right colour, but that it is a G&G (which, apparently, excuses everything).
Other odd assertions: black is not a colour. Charcoal only goes with purple. Mid-grey is a deep colour. The moon is made of blue cheese (ok - I made that one up).
Yes, I noticed the misapplication of 'self' Bit of a howler that one. Hee hee. as they say over here: "Mamas duras, Cromps."
