Based on the long-running radio programme. Here is how it works:-
Each week a guest ("castaway") is asked to choose eight pieces of music, a book and a luxury item for their imaginary stay on the island, while discussing their lives and the reasons for their choices.
At the end of the programme they choose the one piece they regard most highly. They are then asked which book they would take with them. They are automatically given the Complete Works of Shakespeare and the Bible.
I will start:-
1. Lady in Red - Chris de Burgh
2. Bachman Turner Overdrive - You ain’t seen nothing yet
3. Agadoo - Black Lace
4. Walking back to happiness - Helen Shapiro
5. Crazy frog - Axel f
6. Little White Bull - Tommy Steele
7. The Laughing Policeman - Charles Penrose
8. Viva Espana - Sylvia
If I could only take one record I would take Bachman Turner Overdrive. ('Ode to Joy' is most popular)
My book would be Andy Gilchrist 'The Encyclopaedia of Men's Clothes'. It is something I could return to. Not just read once.
My luxury item would be a set of Kirby Allison Hanger Project hangers and wardrobes to hold them. This would make sure my jackets were properly supported at the shoulder and I looked good when out and about on the island.
You could choose a lifetime supply of cigarettes, or an inflatable woman, or even a piano(the most common choice). The luxury is not supposed to have a practical value in helping you escape the island, though the inflatable woman could be a buoyancy aid if you decided to swim.
I'm glad to see that someone else gets Bachman Turner Overdrive.
I use it for snide references for years - hardly anyone used to smirk.. now .....
gilga - last weekend cleaning out my garage I came across my old magazine collections. Do you think 20 old copies of the original WIRED magazine are worth anything? Perhaps in the North American trad market?
Or the 11 CREEM magazine or Rolling Stone with Hunter S writing Fear and Loathing?
Or an old Apple eComputer or and old ZIP drive (remember them) or my old dial up modem.
Are these things trad?
