Re: Test Your Era knowledge

I've seen similar looks in the late 40s so I will guess 1948.

Re: Test Your Era knowledge

But what of those shoes? Somewhat incongrious with the rest of the outfit, they're 1925 for sure.

Re: Test Your Era knowledge

Hmmm, I'm starting to think, based on my knowledge of sea shanties and Joseph Conrad novels that its 1911?

Re: Test Your Era knowledge

Excellent little challenge.  I am glad I kept my silly thoughts to myself--I would have been very wrong.

Re: Test Your Era knowledge

I think its interesting to see a range of "fashions" in eras.

If I'd have posted the guy on the left side of photo its a different perspective. The whole photo is also a different context.

It is interesting that the photo is in Australia. The original guy I posted looks somewhat European to me.

Of course it is perfectly possibly he was in fact a European who had just arrived for a sojourn.

The guy on the left of photo with teh blazer is clearly an early iteration of a iGent - if only his jacket was shorter and tighter he would be posting on SF.

High water pants - check
Skinny tie - check
Tie too short - check
4" cuffs - check
Short hair - check

Re: Test Your Era knowledge

Except for the shoes, the original subject of the thread looks like a time traveller.

Re: Test Your Era knowledge

Interesting. The guy on the left is the model for cardcaptor charlie. The blazer cuts away like a swallowtail, which suggests that it originates from a morning coat design - does anyone know whether that is actually correct?
