Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

Very nice snark on the last couple of pages.  In general, the entries on Ask Andy About Costumes are just plain boring.  The ones on Styleforum are textbook definitions of the faux pas.

Bob is getting too easy; it's the sartorial equivalent of picking on the retarded kid on the school yard.  I got no love for the tramp, and am baffled by how he got considered for Esquire's "best dressed normal man," but I'm just sayin'.

However, I'd like to see more Oldass, I mean Holdfast, on here.  His approach is soo corny (right balance of effort and disaster) that is it worthy of attention.  I know he doesn't cause trouble or anything, he just dresses awful (if you're reading this Oldfast:  just because you have access to an RL dropship, you do not instantly become a fashionista).  Maybe I'll become that old buzzard's paparazzo.

Re: When bespoke wishes and fabric dreams go wrong

Compo has been blogging for Timothy Everest and his reward is that Swiss army knife of jackets - the velvet evening jacket with the toggle. This piece of peacockery may not be Compo's choice but I bet it is. It is in red/;brown velvet because that is obviously subtle and restrained - http://permanentstyle.blogspot.com/2010/12/fitting-at-timothy-everest.html

I don't know if Compo has a hunch which brings up his left shoulder, but he better because those lapels are about an inch out of kilter and the human eye can detect 1/4 inch discrepancies (which is why that picture on the wall bugs you when it's askew). Moreover, it's Teddy Boy length and - whilst Compo (of course) recognises that there is less flair in the skirt because it has no vents, the truth is that it's built as if it had a crimpoline underneath it. The boy could have buttocks like curling stones and he'd still look scrawny.

Compo refers to the problem with the lapel as one of balance. As I understand it balance is something which refers to the fit front to back rather than side to side but I may be wrong. In any event Compo has accepted a solution which shortens one side of the collar and brings up the bottom hem so that the buttonhole matches the button. Not sure that will sort out a lapel which is an inch down. Interestingly, the pictures of Compo wearing his trophy do not show the lapels full on, but I'm sure that's merely a coincidence. Anyway he didn't pay for it so no harm done.

The Timothy Everest velvet jacket is a bit Noel Coward. Not sure when you would wear it. I would have no use for it though.

I suppose it is a counter to Timothy Everest's High Street Marks & Sparks association.

Mr. C. gets a free jacket. Mr E. gets some free blogging. We get a not a particularly interesting article to read.

By the way, I see Lodger shoes changed hands. Possibly a blog was not enough to generate sufficient business for them.

Contrary to lies of FNB and Woofboxer, I (and most of the other "Buff Bastards") have been banned from posting on this forum. There are only a few posters left so don't waste your time on here. This forum is dead and nobody cares.
