Knockaround shirts

I need some basic solids and stripes for travel and other intensive wear.  I'm looking for something better than CT and Lewins that doesn't require a third digit in the price.  Any suggestions?

Both Harvie and Hudson and N&L earn high marks for their bespoke offerings: would anyone recommend their ready-made shirts?  (H&H's Tyrwhitt-style perma-sale has me worried.)

Re: Knockaround shirts

I am not a fan of H&H's RTW collar shape but they are miles better than CT or Lewin.

Be careful with N&L as the quality varies. Stick to the traditional collar shape - http://www.newandlingwood.com/category.php?id=1

Hilditch & Key is the main alternative at £51 in the sale - http://www.hilditchandkey.co.uk/shop/index.htm.

Re: Knockaround shirts

The cheapest wearable shirt I've found is T M Lewin - the construction quality gives no cause for complaint (no hanging threads / unravelling etc), the unfused collar and cuffs are a nice touch, and the fit is the best of the ilk for my physique. At ~£25 they're virtually disposable.

Re: Knockaround shirts

If the buttons bothered me I'd replace them with MoP ones from a dead T&A but it always seems like more effort than it's worth.

I don't seem to have issues with shrinkage (it's just cold in here vicar) but then I wash them at 30 and line-dry them.

I would have thought, a Lands End OCBD at around USD$14.99 in the sales, would make the ultimate knockaround shirt?

The most versatile shirt I own is a light blue oxford semi-spread collar.  It can be worn with anything short of formal, with or without tie.  It's easy to let hang dry and then wear without ironing too.
