Yes, the drummer is absolutely fantastic. There's still no one to beat Snufkin on the Huuliharpuu though.......

Here's a Pacific Jazz rarity, Earl Anderza an alto sax player who served a long time in San Quentin for statutory rape, about the same time Art Pepper was inside.  Both of these alto players died in 1982, Pepper playing better than ever and Earl in obscurity and poverty. 'What's New' from 1962 album 'Outa Sight':

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

That Nicola Conte did a set at the North Sea Jazz Festival a couple of years back, sadly disappointing; no latin, Italian film soundtracks or evidence of inspired mixing whatsoever.  Nothing remotely as good as the "Bossa Per Due" stuff, a great shame.

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

Greatly underrated is Mr T, real hard bop with a blues and soul filled backbone and JS is a fan too as RS has posted.  The Mosaic Blue Note box set is well worth the investment with his missus grooving on the Hammond.

Re: Groovin' at the I Spot -

At the age of 17 I was fortunate enough to see Jimmy McGriff and Hank Crawford live, moreover I also met both of them.  As the first time I ever saw a musician from my record collection live, it proved to be a pivotal moment in my life, and of course all these years later their music still sounds wonderful.  Jimmy McGriff was definitely one of the true greats of blues music (he categorised himself as a blues not a jazz player, although the jazz influence was always apparent).  Good work Harpo!
