Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

Shallow and empty seems a harsh description for some to envelope but I think its a very accurate description of the masses.   Far easier it remains for folks to abide the daily and changing rule of the masses over finding a level of comfort that is of their own and abiding the scorn of the ones that are weaker in spirit but strengthened with the approval of others.

I should hope that many would learn that it is alright to be different or be same but to be oneself and be true is far more the pleasing way to be.

I'm hoping Mrs Lean might leave her nighty off...

I like a little mustard stirred in with my beans. Just a spot. It adds something I think.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

I am never sure what is the correct way to serve beans but I have spent a life time of tradition of eating this rare commodity with a side order of pickled beats, corn bread and onion head.   Clothing is optional I am sure but I can only imagine that Mother and all others would be more happy if all showed up at least full clad.  Weather being so cold I assume its the practical thing to do.  In fact seems I do not recall every have shuck beans except during cold weather.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

God Bless you GH!

More of this & less of AK please!

Pickled Beetroot is fantastic - Yet one more thing we agree on.

'Shucking' in England is reserved only  for Oysters, but I wonder if the word's usage has been preserved in its proper sense in America?
It's a word I like...
I'd like to shuck my jacket after a long day I think.
Then later on to shuck my shirt...

Mrs Lean shucking her nighty would be a bonus too..

Goodness we've come a long way from Tucker Carlson on this thread...

Anybody else noticed that?

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

I never knew whom Tucker Carlson was.  About Shuck beans they are simply sundried or air dried green beans that are strung up on a sewing thread.  They develop a leathery type surface and would not be enjoyed by the masses, I think but are a local treat from child hood.  They are also called leather britches and several other names.  The shuck here refers to the fact that they have not been shucked of the outter skin.  Shucking has not lost all its meaning.  I understand the term in deep south and or Georgia however has some more a modified meaning as in friendly communications of the locals called shucking and jiving.   Ahh Shucks no reason to try to explain all this hillbilleze to a bunch of english gentlemen I reckon. smile

Interesting stuff!
In return we can teach you all about 'fagging' and 'twagging it'.
Nowhere on earth is stranger than an English school.

Well have to say I have never been much on fagging but I could learn some things and twagging has not been my strong point as well but I am up for a lesson in it.   While you are at it can you tell me a clear definition of what Film Noir is.   Since one of our writters once wrote we do film noir hats, I have always wondered just which of the hats we do was they.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

Thank you Ed. I have learned that : Film noir is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize moral ambiguity and sexual motivation. Hollywood's classic film noir period is generally regarded as stretching from the early 1940s to the late 1950s. Film noir of this era is associated with a low-key black-and-white visual style that has roots in German Expressionist cinematography, while many of the prototypical stories and much of the attitude of classic noir derive from the hardboiled school of crime fiction that emerged in the United States during the Depression.

The term film noir (French for "black film"), first applied to Hollywood movies by French critic Nino Frank in 1946, was unknown to most American film industry professionals of the era. Cinema historians and critics defined the canon of film noir in retrospect; many of those involved in the making of the classic noirs later professed to be unaware of having created a distinctive type of film.

I see that like so many other things that come to be this came to be with out the planning for it to be so.   Nothing wrong with that concept however.  I seem to do it all the time -- that is do things and not know what the heck I am doing.

Mr Lean did you get to fag, twag or otherwise get Mrs Lean out of the nighty or any mustard in the beans yet?

My beet root was devine as always.

As we endure the single digit temps over here in this fine winter,  I am about to have a fine order of Biscuit and Gravy this fine morning.  I am sure this is a treat the English not ever have the priviledge of lavishing.

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

I've heard of Biscuits & Gravy but am clueless as to what it is. Surely it's not biscuits with gravy on top?
Equally I have no idea what Grits are.

No beans for me for a while now. I miss them.

And Mrs Lean was cross with me yesterday too...

A fag was a younger boy acting as a servant to an older one. In theory the older boy would then mentor the younger one, but only rarely did that happen.
Does this still go on?
Sedburgh (Sp?) I think still had it in my day. My school did not. Or maybe I just wasn't trusted enough to be involved in such high-jinks...

'Twagging it' is one of the many terms for playing truant. I think it's a Northern English term.

And so I remain fagless & twagless, working away in my study listening to Hank Mobley.
Can't complain really.

What the English call biscuits, Americans call cookies or crackers.

In the US (especially in the South), biscuits are a sort of bread roll.

Grits is a type of corn/maize porridge similar to polenta.

Learning a lot today!

A 'pig's foot' is a joint isn't it? ('Gimme a pig's foot & a bottle of beer', etc.)

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

Oh heavens I have heard a large joint referred to as a hog leg and various other terms but I do not think I have heard it called a pigs foot.  We have such a drug epidemic in these parts ( combined with I have found that the undesirable effects like short term memory loss etc and long with my obsessive behavior and a new child coming into the world) all seem to trump my desire to have any pot in my life.  Since I rarly ever took on any beer and other drink I just decided to abstain from all of it as well hopefully for the betterment of the child.  After all I am not sure we can subscribe any healthful benefits to the above and it may be easier to train the child to abstain if I practice what I preach.

I am guessing I would not care for the english system of fagging in the schools as well as the american system of fags as well.

Mr. Lean speaking of faging my wife though due to the type of dress the mainstream on style forum was hawking such as the window pane and other loud checks etc combined with their genear deameanor that most of them were homosexual males.   I am unsure of this but beginning to wonder if half the entire world is actually homosexual anymore.

Thoughts?

Re: The WASP Hat and Man Who Created Tucker Carlson

I have no idea about your history or involvement in the various forums around.  I think my record on this is becomming ( not sure of the right term here)  but I am sure about my feelings of these joints.   I feel they are over moderated and the insane assylums are ran by the inmates on the forums that pretend to be run by the admins and moderators.

I am not sure if my wife's thoughts on the dress code has any bearing on the sexuality of the membership.    I also know the syles seem to vary greatly from time to time.

What is your thoughts on the various forums around?  Do you have a bad rap with them?   Wonder why they told me to come here  as I would envitably be barred there?

On the other hand I am always unsure why they allow public pressure cause them to react so as they do.

Did you see the lot of trolls from the fedora lounge gether in their pack mentality and come to beat me up as soon as Jmatt told them I had joined style and he could not get me barred by himself?

Wonder what makes folks tick in such a way as to consider well meaning people that thing drastically different than mainsteam to be considered a threat?
