Re: iGent of the Year Award

I liked the part where Dick the WASP got a girl to break up with her boyfriend by means of a letter he had forged and then dumped her a bit later. Wonder how he forged the guy's signature?

I thought having a certain code of conduct was part and parcel of being a preppy, patrician WASP. By his own admission, Dick the WASP is a lowdown, lying scoundrel--certainly not the type I'd sponsor into a yacht club or country club, that's for sure.

OldSchoolPrep has my vote, though there are so many other wonderful options. Is there a separate category for Trads?

Re: iGent of the Year Award

Uncle Mac has all the qualities required, save one.

His dress sense consists of entirely old-fashioned clothing (blazers) word badly (with woollen polo shirts) and with stupid accessories (cordovan shoes and argyle socks) fetishised for their own sake.

He always takes photos in the mirror of the gents.

He loves "pocket squares".

He has intense relationships with people he doesn't actually know in which he encourages a degree of familiarity which has homo-erotic overtones.

His clothes neither flatter nor particularly fit him but his wardrobe is both immense and expensive.

The one quality he lacks is that he does not seem to pontificate about things of which he knows nothing, but I still regard him as worthy.

Re: iGent of the Year Award

Best thread was hockeyinsider for 'Disappointment with Bookster'.

Closely followed by hockeyinsider for 'What to wear with my new Bookster jacket'.

I miss some posters - notably The Most Handsome Man in Korea.

I miss some subjects - notably 'edge dressing'.

Some subjects have made a welcome return after a lengthy absence - notably 'steamers'.

Yes my 3 votes (I hold some proxys) go to hockey insider. Spectacular demonstration of a raft of classic iGent qualities.

If only there was a shoe post by him of seeking advice on buying, complaining, returning, complaining etc then I'd vote for him to take out 2011 too or to win a specially minted perpetual trophy.

Re: iGent of the Year Award

We definitely need more than one category:
1. Fashionable iGent of the Year
2. Trad iGent of the Year
3. Most iGentrified iGent of the Year (Most Improved)
4. Most Immoderate Moderator of the Year
5. Lifetime Achievement in iGentry
6. ...

Re: iGent of the Year Award

I think a prerequisite for iGent of the year nomination is that the nominee should be an "attorney" or perhaps there should be s special award for the  poster who best approaches iGentism without being an attorney.

Re: iGent of the Year Award

I have always liked the Earl. Never seen signs of xenophobia.

Cruiser is OK too. I think he is there for the arguments rather than the clothes. Any sign of what he sees as pretentiousness and he will call people on it. It may mean slacks and a polo shirt most days but the dialogue is more interesting than the clothes.

I don't know enough about individual moderators other than to know that a banning is never far away.

Re: iGent of the Year Award

I would not say that was xenophobia. I saw it as a political gesture in response to an incident. Boycotts are usually a waste of time anyway.

Matching your belt to your shoe colour is a good source of entertainment

Merlot, chilli, walnut, beechwood, number 8, etc., etc. - just as well they won't wear black shoes. That would take all the fun away.
